The City of Apopka continues to monitor the track of Hurricane Milton. Orange County, Florida is currently under a local state of emergency, and also a state and federal state of emergency. The county is also under a Hurricane Warning.
SANDBAGS:
The City will continue to have sandbags available until 12 PM on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Edwards Field (behind Kit Land Nelson Park).
o Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 7 AM to 6 PM
o Wednesday, October 9, 2024 from 7 AM to 12 PM
OFFICE CLOSURES:
o Apopka Recreational Facilities will be closing at 5 PM on October 8, 2024 in preparation for the storm.
o Apopka City Hall, City offices, & City Parks & Recreation facilities will be closed on Wednesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 10, 2024.
o Apopka City Hall, City offices, & City Parks & Recreation facilities will reopen on Friday, October 11, 2024.
o PLEASE NOTE: The Apopka Police Department and Apopka Fire Department will have additional staff on hand to keep our community safe, before, during, and after the storm.
SANITATION SCHEDULE
Wednesday, October 9, 2024:
o The Sanitation Division will operate a limited schedule on Wednesday for recycling only. Please be sure to have your containers at the curb at 7 AM sharp, as we will be running extra trucks in order to finish earlier and may be in your neighborhood earlier than usual.
o Please do NOT put any yard waste on the curb and please secure your bulky items and yard waste until after the storm passes.
Thursday, October 10, 2024
o All waste collection will be suspended on Thursday.
o There will be no make up day for garbage. If your garbage day pickup day is Thursday, you will get your next normal pickup on Monday.
Friday, October 11, 2024
o We will send out additional updates after the storm about collection.
o Stay tuned to the City's website and social media sites for information about debris collection and citizen drop off locations.
SHELTERS
The Apopka High School Shelter will open at 6 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 and is located at 555 Martin St, Apopka, FL 32712. This shelter is a general population and pet-friendly shelter for people living in low-lying areas and mobile homes that need shelter from the storm. It will remain operational until the storm is over.

TRANSPORTATION
o Florida has suspended tolls to assist with Hurricane Milton Evacuations
ACCESS LYNX will provide life-sustaining medical trips starting Tuesday, October 8, 2024. If sustained winds from Hurricane Milton reach 35 mph, the LYNX transit system will shut down temporarily for safety reasons.
